My grandfather, my mom's father, had been a Native American Indian from an Ojibwa tribe in upstate New York. Sadly, he'd passed away in my mid-teens, but while he was still alive, I would spend several happy weeks each summer with him on the reservation where he lived. We'd fish, hike, camp, and, in the evenings, he'd make a bonfire and tell me and some of the other kids stories about our Native American heritage. And one time, once all the other kids had fallen asleep, he'd told me a story that no one else had gotten to hear.
